Eid Al Adha 2023: UAE Announces Holidays for Public Sector
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the official Eid Al Adha holidays for federal and public sector employees. The holidays will begin on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, and end on Thursday, June 29, 2023. This means that Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, as it traditionally falls on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah.
Eid Al Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. It marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, Ismail (Ishmael).
During Eid Al Adha, Muslims around the world slaughter animals and distribute the meat to the poor and needy. They also pray, attend special prayers, and visit family and friends.
The UAE government has urged the public to celebrate Eid Al Adha in a safe and responsible manner. The authorities have also advised residents to follow all COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and avoiding large gatherings.
